Poundage

What with reducing my Santa Barbara bike commute from nine miles, the last three of it up a mountain, to three minutes, combined with the enforced inactivity of my achilles rupture, I’ve put on some weight over the past five years. Just how much weight was made searingly obvious when I went to the doctor two weeks ago for my finger tendon and they made me get on the scale.

I joined Weight Watchers the following day. I’ve never done anything like this before. So far so good. I’m enjoying rethinking what we cook, how we eat, specifically what I have grown to consider an adequate portion size.

Stay tuned…

  1. They made you get on the scale because you hurt your finger…?

I was meaning to ask how your finger is – not too bad, I hope.

Lots of luck and solidarity with the adjustment of your eating habits. I’ve been doing this since last Summer, having also reached a sudden and unpleasant realisation of how much my size had expanded. Have had some success (-16 lbs), but found that, despite feeling huge benefits of greater energy, sounder sleep and enhanced general well-being, quite apart from the weight-loss, eating from habit and for pleasure/comfort, rather than from hunger, goes really deep and probably can’t be reversed instantly. If an enormously greedy person like me can do it, though, you certainly can :-)

  2. Well, I am finding that my crutches are quickly becoming personal trainers that are helping me shed pounds. Since I broke my ankle, I have been very careful with what I eat, because the last thing I need on top of all this is more weight to to swing along on one leg.

Weight Watchers worked for many of my friends!
