  1. I love uncials. I don’t know their history, though I have some vague notion that Ireland figures in it. It would be cool if someone knowledgable were to post more about them. (Nudge, nudge.)

    There’s something about the way they fill up their spaces, like balloons inflated inside little boxes, that has always enchanted me.

  2. Adem was a great-cousin of ours, though no one knows how she got the nickname, she was baptised Marie-Cecile. I would bike 6 km to her house in Apremont and she would give me ice-cold watered-down homemade cassis liqueur, which I would drink down in large gulps. Inevitably lunchtime would come, I would head back under the noonday sun, fall in a ditch and sleep for an hour before making it back. Found out two months ago that this was a ritual each of us four kids went through.
