While We Fulminate…

The young take action.

The most encouraging news I came across today was that about 85 students in Boulder High School in Colorado staged a protest in the school library, saying they were concerned about the future of the country and refusing to leave until Republican politicians came and met with them. No Republican came to speak with them—a spokesman for Governor Owen told them the best way for them to practice democracy was to go back to their classroom—but their Democratic congressman, Mark Udall, came over and spoke with them for about an hour.

The students consider their action a success.

  1. I went to Boulder High for two years before we moved out of the US, and I heard about the protest from my younger brother. I am so, so proud of those students, and so inspired. Thanks for posting this.

  2. I saw that and emailed it to a friend. Great. We need to continue to stand up and show we’re here and we’re not going away and we’re not shutting up.

  3. Ok, so I am a part of student worker and I helped plan the sit-in, thanks a ton for all posting this. But, I just thought you should know that we DID meet with Republicans, we met with the Republican representative of Boulder and we’re currently planning a youth summit in which we hope to have Governor Owen attend.
