Night At The River Cats
We just came back from a baseball game, going to watch the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A team for the Oakland A’s, play the Salt Lake Stingers. The River Cats played well and won 5-1 in a game that was over quickly. It was UC Davis group night and we ended up sitting near one of Pica’s coworkers. The Cal Aggie Marching Band-Uh came and performed too, a few of them still wearing their customary sunglasses.
At left we see Dinger, the River Cats’ mascot, known for getting into lots of mischief.
- Good morning, Pica and Numenius. We were at the game too, our first River Cats experience. Most of my baseball memories go back to games at Dodger Stadium (with a couple way back at day games with the Chicago Cubs), so I was set up for a big city baseball, everything’s too far away, experience. We both were exhausted from the week and had been contemplating remaining in front of a good movie before we drug ourselves into the car and out to the stadium. What we hadn’t expected was the transformative experience that begin with standing at the top of the staircase down to our seats and viewing the gorgeous sight of a pristine field under a wide, blue sky. Our haggard…well, frankly, sullen faces burst into wide grins. The seats were great, just to the right of home plate. We had a wonderful time and even shared a beer! We sat with some Woodland folks who came to support a friend whose son is on the Stingers. It was a lovely night and the Band-Uh uh-made us laugh. Thank you for Triple-A baseball. I thought of you guys and wondered if you were there. And you were.— Virginia 24. April 2004, 05:08 Link
