Superstitions

We’re losing them, we Red Sox fans. I’m feeling confident enough with a 13-1 lead over the Rockies at the top of the eighth inning to type these lines. I’d never have done this in, say, 1996, for fear of jinxing something.

There are seven games, and you have to win four. But it’s looking good so far…

[Postscript: the mail guy came in today with a Red Sox shirt on, 15, Pedroia. He used to play baseball with Dustin’s dad up in Woodland…]

  1. To show you how much I’m still paranoid about the Sox, it was 13-1 when I went to sleep last night, and when I woke up this morning, I had to rush online to make sure the Rockies didn’t rally. So no, I’m still not confident, even with a 13-1 lead!

I don’t predict a sweep—nothing is ever that easy. But if the Universe is listening, I’d really like a sweep since that would allow me to see all the remaining games on a big-screen TV without having to lose sleep & do a lot of driving back & forth between here & there. So if the Powers That Be are listening, think sweep!

  2. Great story about the mail guy! Red Sox Nation is everywhere. While I’m not the same nervous wreck I was in 2004, I’m still not completely confident. I did feel good enough to go to bed during the 7th last night, but when I woke up, I did the same thing Lorianne did!

  3. Be careful, Nation; your team is in danger of becoming as overweening (and as overpaid) as the Yankees. And how disgusting would that be? (But that Papelbon is a wonder to behold, and Beckett is a killng machine. Holy cow.)
