Happy Thanksgiving

Charlie and Diego in their mat Unlike in this photo from yesterday, the kitties were fiesty today — Charlie went up a tree and Diego insisted on jumping on the clean sheets of our cat-allergic guest. I meanwhile dropped the ‘e’ from ‘Thanksgiving feast’ and didn’t eat all day.

Kitty Playdate

Quina from across the road came over tonight. It was a short meeting, during which she rarely left Mary’s shoulders, but there was no hissing, and if this works out, it might be a good solution to alternate cat-sitting ventures.

A friend is coming this weekend who is allergic to cats; I have lots of cleaning to do to get the house as mellow as possible, though it will be the tent for sleeping, I think…

Lap Kitties

Lap kitties Diego is turning into a regular lap cat, often seeking Pica’s lap when she does her rounds on the web early in the morning. Charlie is much less so inclined, but one day last week he joined his brother.

Cat's Cradle

Charlie in the newspaper basket Pica’s sister once gave us a woven wood basket that we use for recycling newspapers. But Charlie loves to hop in it when we empty the newspapers!

Blackmailed

At work a project from several years ago came back to haunt us, and I was pressed into the fray to redo some of the analyses that a couple of my colleagues had done. Tomorrow this reanalysis is getting presented at a local planning meeting, and as usual this afternoon there was a flurry of getting materials ready. At about 5:45 PM one of my bosses comes in with a message from the ecology professor in my department who is leading the presentation to give me a whole new project. “Tell him that if he doesn’t make this new map I’ll send email to the entire ecology graduate group announcing that he’s read a book on feng shui for cats.” I stayed late and did the map.

New Kitty Mueble

Kitties on their new furniture Last weekend we bought our kitties a new piece of cat furniture, a three-story setup handmade by somebody in the eastern Sacramento area. We’ve placed it in our bedroom, and it’s high enough so they have a good view out the back window. They’ve taken to it quite well.

Diego today was pleased that his team beat the Ivory Coast 2-1 in World Cup action.

Scalawaggus

Charlie the scalawag Here’s our nitwit of a tree climber, looking very carefree.

Happily last night, our landlord’s son Johnny came by at the right moment. He’s a strapping lad in his mid-thirties who’s a beekeeper by profession. He went up the stepladder to reach the first major fork in the tree, and then climbed up the branch a few more feet to reach and rescue Charlie. In appreciation we made Johnny a standing offer of a beer, but he was headed out in his truck to do something with his bees.
