Refuge From The Heat

swordfern.jpg
Following a trip to the bike store for a new tube and patch kit, I spent some time this afternoon sketching in the Arboretum redwood grove. Over this past year, there has been a major landscaping project in the redwood grove: a whole host of volunteers put in about 20,000 forest floor plants, not to mention redoing the path with bark and mulch so it is no longer so muddy in winter. At left is my painting of one of the new plantings, a sword fern.

  1. Most of this is completely off topic.

First, you’re in the Bay area! There is no heat! If it were over 100, I’d say ok…but c’mon…every morning of every summer I spent in the bay area, I wore a thick woolen sweater!!

Second, there is a candy company in California that makes an absolutely fabulous, huge cubic sucker. Do you know what I’m talking about? What the hell is the name of that company?

The reason I ask is that every time I try to reduce my cigarette consumption, something like a good sucker is a tremendous help. It relieves my oral fixation and keeps my hand busy…and the suckers from that particular candy company are just what I need right now.

My email is silverbear@staroftexas.net. I’d really appreciate it if you could email the info, provided you know it.

BTW, love your blogsite. Worthwhile and entertaining. Thanks for being here.
