Frog-Strangler

That’s our landlord’s expression for the sort of weather we’re having now. I’m not sure where the phrase comes from.

We’ve had 1.62 inches of rain in the last 20 hours or so. There have been high winds, lots of snow in the mountains, highway closures, and flooding. The electricity just went out here, which is hardly unexpected in big storms like this one. I’m typing this on our laptop’s battery, and better post this before the phone goes out as well. Pica was in the middle of the letter ‘g’ on a new font she’s designing when the power loss interrupted everything.

At least we have lots of Double-A batteries…

  1. We lost our power in a storm midway through the year. Fortunately we had some candles. Our 16 year old daughter Sarah has LOTS of candles. In fact she lit so many in her room that she activated the smoke alarms!

  2. Well I hope you’re all okay and have power again. It’s threatening to blow a blizzard here too tomorrow. I imagine we have less dramatic weather than in your part of the States but then the UK is not always as prepared as it might be. Happy New Year to you both!

  3. That was, indeed, a frog-strangler of storm, wasn’t it? I am sorry to hear about your power outage; we were threatened with it here (in my part of Marin), lights dimming every now and then, but they stayed on, in the end.

I hear we are due for another one on New Year’s Day!

Happy New Year to both of you … and here is to hoping it will come in with less of bang than it is going out with….
