You Say Goosander...

Common merganser at the UC Davis Arboretum today at lunch.

  1. We have both mergansers (mainly coastal and estuary) and gooseander (rivers, canals and some coastal). I can see it is a common merganser. Rounder head.

  3. You got the head colour spot on! On a side note, the literal translation of merganser from the Latin is ‘diving-goose’ – very apt!
