Where I am at:

[Pax Nortona]"Soul-less" is the platitude both city dwellers and country folk heap on the kind of place where I live. What do they mean? That the houses have no souls? -- religion and science teach me this. That the developers show no heart when they toss up what these others deride as "ticky tacky houses" after the popular song of the 1950s? This is often true. Or that the people who live in them -- people like me -- have no souls? [Complete Gallery at Paths of Light]

Where I live now:

[Prairie Point] Our neighbor installed a garden arch in the privet hedge separating our properties and planted vines on it.

[under the fire star] -- the first of several pieces on my neighbourhood: [Brodie Castle]

This picture was taken a couple of weeks ago in my front yard in Muncie, Indiana (USA). I saw a monarch butterfly flitting around, so I chased it for awhile with my camera. I'm still amazed that I was able to take a photo of such beauty in my neighborhood.

Discussion

Excellent visions. Bill: Your photo stirs me to mention my recent interest in "gaps". I've been exploring this topic somewhat in my personal photography, looking for views which are revealed by the breaks in the houses, down alleys, through the trees, etc. I think I will add that to the list of future topics.

Nancy: Is that the view from your house? I am envious if it is!

It's a view from my rooftop, three streets away. It's called the Chettinad Palace, and is the mansion of a wealthy merchant family, from a community called the Chettiars. My modern house is built on land that at one time belonged to the 'palace.' (I didn't put a link to myself because I want to finish a roll of film, and then develop it... it's just a place-marker, to show my good intentions.) -- Nancy
Keep your eyes open for something green, Nancy. I know Bill will have no problem with that topic. Of course, he's welcome to surprise us with something that is not a plant. PhotographingPlace/Green -- Joel
Thank you both! If you happen to come up with a nice photo series that doesn't fit anywhere, go to the PhotographingPlace homepage and set up a gallery as I have done for a few photos or fit what you have in an existing gallery. -- Joel
