Turkey Vulture in Storm
We didn’t get as much rain as I’d hoped, but it was plenty rainy at lunchtime. This turkey vulture was rocking on the wind, as they do.

Red-tailed Hawk on Pole
We are expecting big rain and wind tomorrow. This should reorganize burrowing rodents and provide some morsels for predators. We’ll see…

Golden-crowned Sparrow
We had a bit of rain last night. This morning it was bright and sunny and there were lots of birds foraging at home and at work.
I sketched with Liz at lunchtime, drawing a small pumpkin. I used the same paper to draw this golden-crowned sparrow on the back. We have more rain coming on Friday, a big storm with a lot of wind….

Steller's Jay
We took a trip to Berkeley last night to have an early Thanksgiving with family visiting from the East Coast. It was delightful, not least because I have found a young sketching soulmate among the crowd. Leo drew a turkey for everyone and I must send him some walnut ink.
This Steller’s Jay was raucously in the California Bay off the porch, where we sat and enjoyed the late afternoon warmth…

Common Eider
A small raft of eiders were in Booth Bay Harbor on Sunday, when we sat outside, sketching and having lunch. It was a fantastic day.

Off to Maine
I’m heading to Maine for a few days to see my family. Hoping to have a chance to draw a few birds, but in case I don’t, here are some from Davis: the local juvenile red-tail, a flock of Oregon juncos, and a scrub-jay…

Crows in the Field
Becky and I sketched at lunch, the crows following the equipment around that was turning the alfalfa. (On the left is a mockingbird watching the scene from the almond tree.)
