Show us things and places that are green.

Photos

A crumbling building in Lonavla, a hill station in Maharashtra, India.

[under the fire star] A few green things

A view over the fence and through a neighbor's backyard atop Portola Hills. I was struck by the difference between the natural khaki and olive tones of nearby Mounts Santiago and Modjeska and the louder, water-provoked colors of the alien species that the homeowner's association preserves from the realtor's plans. The farther you get from "civilization" in these parts, the more the natural vegetation takes over from that which depends on constant water. It's like looking from moist, well proportioned North Carolina into the chaos of the chaparral. [Paths of Light] with commentary at [Pax Nortona]

To me these have always seemed like church windows. Because they frame the view of my back garden that seems appropriate, since Nature is surely divine.

I have no idea whose boat this is, but the color of the transom just jumped out at me.

Discussion

I've had email requests to explain what we are looking at in these pictures. Take care to write a short description to allow people to center themselves in the place where you were when you took the picture. -- Joel

I read recently at [Gumbyworld] that green is the color of the heart chakra. When they made Gumby (who was and still is a favorite of my ongoing childhood), his color alluded to the color of grass. That point on his head, however, is a "wisdom bump" like the Buddhists used to put on the heads of their boddhisatvas. As the years went on, the angle got steeper and steeper, until finally Gumby's father chose a form which compromised between the extremes.

Funny where we find our iconography. Sometimes where it's not apparent, but informing our spirits nonetheless. -- Joel
