Dana Point marks the site where droughers threw hides off the cliffs to the sailors aboard the Pilgrim in Three Years Before the Mast.

We often go there to enjoy the last stretch of wild shore that the developers of the Dana Point Marina left. Here an ancient river brought pieces of the San Gabriels and dumped them next to the sea: the red cliffs still hold river-rounded relics of ancient mountains. - Joel
