Show us the forest, the trees, the leaves, the flowers, the fruits....

Photos

[large version] Oak tree on ancient tumulus, nr. Tunstall, North Staffordshire, England. April '04. I guess American readers might expect this to be a protected ancient site. It isn't; no-one even seems to know it's there in the wood, there's no signs, no fence, only a tiny path to it that'll be overgrown again come June.

"For the snark was a boojum, you see...."

And if you wonder what a boojum looks like, this is one. A boojum tree that I photographed at the San Diego Wild Animal Park no less.

[More Boojum Trees]

Ah, trees, that's the ticket.

Mackinac Bay in Hessel, Michigan on an early day in fall. The near island off to the right is poetically called Lone Susan Island after an American Indian who camped there alone for many years. The photo is taken from near the end of Hessel Point penninsula -- the land does not rise far above Lake Huron at this stage and trees do not grow too large or too old. In years of low water the birch, the cedars, and the others get their starts -- in years of high water, they exist in a swamp and are severly tested.

Discussion

Sorry for my midwinter deadness.

Fall colors from the Great Smoky Mountains.
